The Home Altar Kit

The Home Altar Ritual begins with an idea found across many contemplative traditions: a dedicated physical space can help distinguish ritual from ordinary activity.

Your altar does not need to be elaborate. Choose a clean, stable surface where the ritual can remain undisturbed.

01 · CREATE THE SPACE
Place the Large Incense Holder at the centre of the arrangement. Position the other elements around it according to your preference.

The act of arranging the space is itself part of the ritual — creating a physical boundary between everyday activity and intentional practice.

02 · BEGIN WITH FRAGRANCE
Choose Lavender Incense or Palo Santo Incense according to the atmosphere you want to create. Light it in the holder and allow the fragrance to settle into the space.

03 · WORK WITH THE AROMATIC WOODS
Use Palo Santo or California Sage as part of your clearing practice. Light briefly, extinguish the flame and allow the smoke to move gently through the space.

Smoke rituals have been used in many cultural and ceremonial traditions as a way of preparing a space, marking transitions and beginning contemplative practices.

04 · RETURN TO YOUR PRACTICE
Once the aromatic ritual is complete, use the space for meditation, journaling, prayer, reflection or quiet sitting.

The purpose of the altar is not the objects themselves. It is the consistency of returning to a place that has been intentionally set aside.

05 · CLOSE THE SPACE
Extinguish all burning materials completely. Allow the holder and ashes to cool before clearing the space.

Over time, the repeated act of returning to the same space can give the ritual a sense of continuity.
